Awards and Medals!

Winners of the GDN Conference Awards have been announced. In a ceremony held last night at the impressive Czernin Palace, GDN’s President Gerardo della Paolera, presented the awards to eleven researchers. The winners were:
The Japanese Award for the Most innovative Development Project went to:
- First Prize: Martin Burt for the Financially Self-Sufficient School
- Second Prize: Vishal Talreja for Empowering Vulnerable Children through Life Skills
The Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development went to:
- First Prize: Dayna Zaclicever for her proposed study on the Survival of Uruguayan manufacturing firms in a Trade Openness Process
- Second Prize: Gilberto Libanio for his proposed study on Regional Impacts of the Global Economy Slowdown in Trade Flows: the Case of Brazilian States
On the theme of Globalisation, Regulation and Development:
- First Prize: Marcela Eslava for her study “Trade Reforms and Market Selection: Evidence from Manufacturing Plants in Columbia“
- Second Prize: Krishna Chaitanya Vadlamannati for his study “Did Globalisation benefit Low income African Countries?“
On the theme of International Migration: Crossing Borders, Changing Lives:
- First Prize: Ebeke Christian Hubert for his study “Remittance, Public Health Spending and Foreign aid in the Access to Health Care Services in Developing Countries“
- Second Prize: Asmaa Elbadawy for her paper on Impact of International Migration and Remittances on Child Schooling and Child Work: the Case of Egypt
On the theme of Regional Integration –Convergence Big Time or an Opportunity Wasted?
- First Prize: Mizanur Rahman for his paper on The Impact of Real Exchange Rate Flexibility on East Asian Exports
- Second Prize: Dibyendu Maiti for his paper on Regional Openness, Income Growth and Disparity across Major Indian States during 1980-2004
After the awards the participants enjoyed a Czech dinner and shared their experiences of the conference. Others took the opportunity to tour around the corridors of this truly magnificent venue.
